On the trail of wild plankton: microscopy workshop on 21 June
This year, the German Ocean Foundation is a guest at the German Wildlife Foundation's Wildlife Embassy and invites you to an exciting microscopy workshop as part of the ‘Long Day of Urban Nature’. Under the motto ‘Wild Animals’, the nature event offers over 250 programme items - and our aim is to show just how wild things get under water.
Plankton under the magnifying glass - small, wild and vital: from 12 noon to 3 p.m., visitors can join in at Lucy-Borchardt-Straße 2 (20457 Hamburg). Water samples are taken from the Elbe using plankton nets and then analysed under a microscope, allowing a fascinating insight into the world of microorganisms - they may be tiny but they are of great ecological importance.
Hands-on science: the workshop will teach the basics of water analysis and raises awareness of the role of plankton in the aquatic ecosystem. Participation is included in the regular admission price, registration is not necessary. Children and young people up to the age of 14 have free admission to the Wildlife Embassy.
An invitation to marvel and join in the research: with this hands-on programme, the German Ocean Foundation aims to arouse curiosity, promote environmental awareness and show how exciting science can be - right on the water, in the middle of Hamburg.
