Watt'nMEER day expeditions on the ALDEBARAN
Lessons at sea about the sea! With the school research project "Watt'n Meer", pupils can experience the North Sea habitat up close. On board the research vessel ALDEBARAN, they can learn from marine scientists and discover the fascinating world of flora and fauna in the North Sea. Such expeditions raise awareness about the sensitive Wadden Sea habitat and about environmental and climate protection. The project is supported by the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea Foundation.
This year, young researchers from the Amandus-Abendroth-Gymnasium and Neues Gymnasium used specially developed "researcher diaries" and experienced an exciting program with twelve modules ranging from biodiversity to ocean litter. The excursions, which lasted several hours, led to the Jade Bay or Medem Rinne, where the pupils also learned how to use professional weather stations and measuring instruments.
