To mark the UN Ocean Conference, the German Association for the United Nations, the German Ocean Foundation, the embassies of France and Costa Rica, Bread for the World and Fair Oceans are hosting an event on the protection and sustainable use of the world's ocean on May 27 at 5 pm.

In this inaugural Ocean Decade Dialogue we are focussing on the first challenge of the UN Decade for Ocean Science - to understand and map land and sea-based sources of pollutants and contaminants and their potential impacts on human health and ocean ecosystems and develop solutions to remove or mitigate them - here with a particular spotlight on the Baltic Sea, the HELCOM action plan for the Baltic Sea and the work of SeaTerra GmbH in the field of explosive ordnance clearance and disposal. Online on Thursday, 15 May at 5 pm.

Around 400 delegates are meeting today for Germany’s first National Ocean Conference, which was opened by the current Environment Minister Steffi Lemke with the attendance of politicians, administrators, scientists and a number of selected non-governmental organisations.

The German Ocean Foundation is calling on all ocean heroes to take part in our media campaign - we want to highlight the great work being done around the world for our ocean. The German Ocean Foundation brings the ocean into the planetarium - offering a new perspective on the smallest but greatest secrets of our world. In an innovative pilot project, impressive images of microorganisms were put together during two workshops in Niendorf on the Baltic Sea using high-resolution cameras and state-of-the-art microscopes - in close collaboration with the team of experts from ZEISS.

The Ocean Science Multimedia Exhibition of the German Ocean Foundation offers a place of learning for all students from the 5th grade onwards who are interested in the UN Ocean Decade and the challenges facing our ocean today.

Immerse yourself in the world of the ocean and let yourself be carried away by amazing stories and breathtaking footage. This month, the International OCEAN FILM TOUR will stop in Düsseldorf (April 5) and Berlin (April 6) - and we, the German Ocean Foundation, will be live on stage!

Frank, in his role as a member of the EU Mission Board to Restore Our Oceans and Waters, will present his policy ideas in an online webinar on the occasion of World Water Day, 'The Hydrosphere in Focus: Safeguarding Water for a Sustainable Future', organized by the Institute for Sustainable Development in collaboration with Verimpact, taking place on Thursday, 27 March 2025 at 2 p.m. CET. 

The German Ocean Foundation is partnering with Step. and GO!, Terra Scientifica, Objectif Sciences International and the Forum de Genève for the "Participatory Science for Ocean" hackathon in Nice in June 2025, offering everyone - ocean enthusiasts, students and professionals - the chance to develop innovative solutions for the ocean conservation and sustainable ocean management.

The non-profit Theo and Liesel Bechtold Foundation supports marine conservation and research projects around the world with the aim of sensitising young people to the ocean, the environment and climate change and getting them interested in science.

From 3 to 7 March, the EU Mission "Oceans and Waters" is organizing a forum with events to discuss and shape future EU policies and initiatives on oceans and waters, in particular the EU Mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters", the European Ocean Pact and the European Water Resilience Strategy.

As a member of the High Seas Alliance, the German Ocean Foundation calls on the German government to ratify the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction.

In the Research at sea competition, you can make turn your dream project into reality on a real research vessel.

With the German Parliamentary elections on the horizon, the German Ocean Foundation, together with 25 committed German foundations from various social spectrums, is calling on political actors and the democratic parties to stand up for the preservation of fundamental rights and a vibrant democracy in a cross-party consensus.

The German Ocean Foundation is involved in shaping the European Ocean Pact, which should be presented to the public at the UN Ocean Conference in Nice in June 2025. 

The German Ocean Foundation joins the call to all European Heads of State to draw up a strategic agenda for the ocean.
